John Legend Speaks On A 'Verzuz' Battle With Alicia Keys

While we’re all awaiting Erykah Badu and Kill Scott’s battle coming this Saturday, we may have to prepare for another one too.

During a recent appearance on Nick Cannon's Power 106 radio show, the EGOT winner expressed his appreciation for the Instagram live series in which artists, producers, and writers go hit-for-hit in front of a worldwide audience. Cannon said it was only a matter of time before Legend participated in a battle, and suggested he go against his fellowThe Voicecoach Alicia Keys.

When asked about the possibility of a battle, he replied, “I think we will.” He continued,

“What I do like with the way it’s been going so far is we’re seeing producers and writers, more than just artists. The producers and writers, what’s so cool about it is, maybe you didn’t know that they produced this song. For me and Alicia, you know it’s our songs ’cause we are the front person for them. We were on the radio singing them, but for all of these producers like Teddy Riley, Babyface, and all these other producers, ‘Oh, I didn’t know they were behind that song.”‘

It’s safe to say that Timbaland and Swizz Beatz has been holding us all down, while we’re quarantining amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As millions of people have tuned in, the Verzuz battles have been legendary, bringing some of our favorite producers, artists and entertainers together. We’ve seen battles from the likes of Neyo, The Dream, Babyface, Teddy Riley, T Pain, Lil Jon, and more.
